Healthcare Showcase at Tri-County Community College

Tri-County Community College recently welcomed GEAR UP students from Robbinsville High School and Hayesville Middle School to learn about the various degree and certificate programs in healthcare that are offered at the college. Programs covered included Medical Assisting, Nursing, Phlebotomy, Pharmacy Technology, EMT/EMS and ended with an interactive exhibit with local emergency responders including Murphy Fire Department, Swift Water Rescue, Cherokee and Clay County EMS, NC Forestry Cherokee County Unit, and the Tri-County Community College Ambulance.  This showcase was a unique opportunity to educate students on the exciting and rewarding careers available in the healthcare industry.

"Working with Tri-County Community College has been a wonderful experience over the last two school years.  We have experienced three events with TCCC and have another one scheduled. These events were well organized and a huge success in the eyes of our students, counselors and teachers.  We have experienced an event for our advanced culinary classes, a Workforce Symposium for our rising high school students, as well as an event focused on Allied Health Occupations.   Students were engaged upon arrival and immersed in many career opportunities covering a variety of subjects taught at TCCC. The professors involved our students with hands-on experiences and took time to answer many questions about classes and career opportunities. TCCC and their GEAR UP Coordinator, Jena Szewczyk, have definitely been an asset to our students," said Francine Williams, GEAR UP Coordinator in Graham County.
