About: Kim Hutchison, GEAR UP college visit program coordinator, earned her MBA in Interdisciplinary Business from Appalachian State University. She holds a B.M. in instrumental music education from East Tennessee State University. Prior to joining the GEAR UP team, Ms. Hutchison has served as an administrative support assistant within the Chemistry and Fermentation Sciences department and as a graduate assistant for Walker College of Business Graduate Programs at Appalachian State.
Before relocation to the high country, Kim served as a middle school band director in Kingsport City School in northeast Tennessee. Ms. Hutchison’s current position allows her to build upon the experience within the sixth, seventh, and eighth grade classroom setting to ensure quality experiences for students within the grant cohort. She believes that students can do anything that they set their minds to and is honored to help students explore postsecondary options to ensure success as they approach adulthood.
