They recently graduated with a Master’s of Music as well as a certificate in Music Theory Pedagogy Research and Practice from Appalachian State University in May of 2023, and Becka holds a Bachelor’s in Music Education from The University of Wyoming. During their time at Appalachian State University, Becka conducted research, under Dr. Jennifer Snodgrass, into the relationship between low-income, first-generation students and their process pursuing higher, music education. It is currently planned to be presented at the Pedagogy into Practice Conference next year. They have also presented research regarding aleatoric music nationally with the McNair Scholars Program, and continue to study aspects related to music philosophy and music composition. With this knowledge, Becka hopes to dismantle the disparities that low-income students face when starting the college process.
