Educational Background

I obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism and Mass Communication - Public Relations from UNC-Chapel Hill and a Master of Education degree in Higher Education Administration from NC State University. 

What clubs, sports or experiences were you involved in in college?

I was a member of a student-led dance performance club, I participated in the Big Brother Big Sister program, and I worked as a Resident Adviser with the housing department.

Why should students in the Appalachian region consider pursuing postsecondary education?

Students in the Appalachian region should consider pursuing postsecondary education because research suggests a correlation between higher education and increased income level, health, and satisfaction throughout one's life. In addition to the personal benefits, western NC students who pursue higher education will be able to fill specialized career openings in the region, as well as give back to their communities.

What is one piece of advice you might be able to offer a middle or high school student?

I would tell a middle or high school student to have confidence in their skills, abilities, and intelligence and silence the voice in their mind that says they are "not good enough." YOU are enough, you have value, and you can achieve your goals!
