Why should students in the Appalachian region consider going to college?

College and postsecondary education are not limited to 4-year institutions. It also includes 2-year community colleges, technical schools, culinary schools, art/design schools, etc. Postsecondary education provides students with opportunities for self-reflection, self-discovery, and personal growth. Challenging curriculum and skilled training programs cultivate talent and passion which allows students to make knowledgeable choices about their own unique career path.

What is one piece of advice you would offer a middle or high school student?

I would advise students to begin thinking about the future while continuing to be present in their personal journey right now. Surround yourself with diversity! Be open to making new friends from different backgrounds, exploring new hobbies, sports, and extracurricular activities. These experiences will help guide your future and lead you towards a fulfilling career.
