          Upward Bound

          Upward Bound is an academic support program funded by the U. S. Department of Education's TRIO Programs division. Upward Bound provides the necessary support for economically disadvantaged and/or first generation high school students to complete high school, enroll in college, and successfully obtain a four-year college degree.

          1. Spend six weeks each summer living on campus at Appalachian
          2. A college student will tutor you in your high-school courses
          3. Get help choosing high school courses best for you and for getting into college
          4. Go on trips to the beach, camping, kayaking, backpacking, & more
          5. Go to plays, concerts, and lectures
          6. Help developing a resume and cover letters that will earn scholarships
          7. Visit and compare many colleges to decide which one is best for you
          8. Help applying for college and obtaining financial aid
          9. Meet and become friends with students from three other high schools
          10. All of these opportunities are FREE!
